Shanghai

Shanghai is China's biggest city and is considered as a global financial hub. There weren't many Filipinos or foreign travellers during our stay, so I guess it still isn't one of people's top choices for travel destinations. However, it is a nice place to visit and explore, especially during Autumn when the weather is reasonably cool (at least for me). Also, they now have a Disneyland that is so cool and awesome.

Our first destination was the Jing'an temple in West Nanjing Road. It was built in the 220-280 and used to be called as Hudu Chongyuan Temple. It was burned into ruins in the 1972 but was rebuilt in 1984. To enter the complex, there is an entrance fee of ¥50 (around ₱350).The place is huge and is pretty much everything inside is open to the public.

Next stop was the Bund or Wai Tan, which is a famous waterfront and considered to be a symbol of Shanghai for several years. The architecture in the area is a mix of Gothic, baroque and neoclassical styles so if you love historical-looking buildings, you'll definitely enjoy walking around the area. I recommend going to the Bund in the morning for better appreciation (and photos) of the building. However, if you want to see how vibrant Shanghai is, one should definitely go there during the night time.

Across the Bund are the Pudong Skyscrapers which is a delight to view during night time. However, you have to be very gumptious in taking pictures of  and with the skyscrapers because a lot of people also want to have their picture taken with the skyscrapers as their background.

The second day was dedicated for Shanghai Disneyland. We actually opted to go to Shanghai instead of other Asian countries because we wanted to see the newly-built Disneyland. So, what's so special with this Disneyland? For one, it has the only Enchanted Storybook Castle (a.k.a Sleeping Beauty's Castle) that you can enter and explore. Yes people, we can already go inside the infamous castle. I got so giddy when we entered. It felt like all my childhood princess dreams coming true.

On our third day, my friend and I went to Shanghai Zoo to see the giant pandas. It is my belief (and hers too....i think) that no China travel will be complete if one is not able to see giant pandas. Seriously, who can resist those big balls of fur? Unfortunately, there were only 2 pandas in the zoo and both were too lazy (most likely because the weather was cool) to do anything.

Since, we're there already, we also checked out the other animals. There were other animals like flamingos, bears, tigers, other birds, giraffes and many more.

After that, we went to Yu Yuan Garden which is a famous classical garden in the heart of Shanghai. The garden was built during the Ming Dynasty and was built for the parents of the government officer who finished the garden.

Shanghai may not be as exciting as other Asian cities like Tokyo or Seoul, but it is definitely worth visiting. They actually have a lot of things to offer to tourists, especially now that there is a Disneyland in the city.
