Singapore version 2.0

....and I am back Singapore!!!

This trip was nine months in the making so you would probably understand how excited Yani and I were when the month of June came...28 days to go!! But then, unfortunate events kept happening. There was the Singapore haze, the Cebu Pacific's aircraft situation and my being held (for the third time) in the Philippine immigration..Anyway, everything worked out well so....off we go to Singapore!!

During the duration of the trip, the MRT became our main transportation as we shop, tour around and meet people. One thing I love about this country is their very efficient MRT. As I said in my previous blog on Singapore, their MRT is easy breezy. For someone who has no sense of direction (despite above average spatial intelligence), this is actually manna from heaven.

We stayed in A Beary Good Hostel in Pagoda Street in Chinatown. As we have limited budget for accommodations, we had to choose a place where it's affordable and has easy access to the MRT. This hostel actually fits the bill. The place was pretty decent, was just a stone throw away from the MRT-Chinatown Station and only costs SGD 27/night. In addition, breakfast (no matter how meager it was)  was included so at least we were able to save on that (fyi, food in Singapore is expensive!!). Just a heads up, rooms are mixed dormitory-type and there's a big chance that your roommates will be guys. Our guy roommates were very nice so it was all good.

First agenda on our first day was to meet my good friend, Ate B-ann, for lunch. She brought us to Marché Restaurant in 313 Somerset. Marché is a Swiss market restaurant where ingredients are fresh and meals are prepared right in front of you. You can actually tell that the food is great because people are really lining up just to get inside the restaurant. From pasta, to salad, to roasted chicken, they have it! The food was a bit expensive but they were really excellent so I guess it was worth it.

After our quick lunch, we met our friend Mae in Orchard station. She was actually the reason why we were in Singapore. She has been working there for a year and we promised to visit her. We walked along Orchard road to look for things that were on sale. We also met my high school adviser, Ms. Ambat (her maiden name) for a quick chat turned Orchard walk-a-thon. She even let us try Singapore's version of dirty ice cream or "walls" which was actually good.

Walls in a bread!!!!

After our long walk in Orchard, we went to the Merlion. No Singapore trip would be complete without going to that half fish half lion statue. The last time I was in there, we visited it in the morning and it was not spewing water. I realized that it looked more majestic at night...and more fun as well. We also watched the fireworks and light show in Marina Bay Sands which was really cool.

How cool is my shower?!? Hahahah

Our second day was spent in Universal Studios. The last time I was there we were not able to try some rides because I was scared and there was a thunder storm so some outdoor rides were suspended. This time, I finally had the courage to try the rides like the Mummy Returns, Transformer and the Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure. Verdict? They were all amazing most especially the Transformers. It was so cool that we have to do it twice. Although, I still don't have the guts to try Battlestar Galactica. Hahaha

Movie characters such as Pinocchio and Puss from Shrek, Frankenstein, Elmo and Grover from Sesame Street, the cast of Madagascar and Po from Kung Fu Panda were there for people to take pictures with.

Luckily, there was also a parade on the day we went there. The street parade in USS is during weekends and holidays only.

On our last night, we hit two birds with one stone. I had to meet my college friend, Eloi, and our high school classmate, Patty, for dinner. So what we did was to just ask Eloi to join us. We ate in Makansutra Gluttons Bay near the Esplanade. Makan Sutra is just like our Mercato only smaller. We tried cereal prawns, kebabs and lemon chicken and everything was yummy. The food is also one of the best things in Singapore. Despite it being expensive, all tastes really good and very satisfying to the tummy.

high school friends....meet my college friend. :)

On our last few hours in Singapore, we were able to roam around the vicinity of the hostel. It was also time for us to buy some pasalubongs for family and friends back home. We also dropped by the Bugis area and back to Somerset to get last minute pabili.

Thank you again Singapore for the exciting visit..I would be back in a few years. Probably when USS has more new rides or when I decide to go back to teaching. Thank you to those who fed us for the three days we were there, Ate B-an, Ms. Ambat, Mae & Patty. Thank you to Eloi to for seeing me.

Next stop: Malaysia!!

Note: As I was so lazy to take out my camera and my phone's camera has terrible resolution, most of the pictures are taken by my friends, Yani, Mae & Patty. So thank you guys!!
