Shanghai

Shanghai is China's biggest city and is considered as a global financial hub. There weren't many Filipinos or foreign travellers during our stay, so I guess it still isn't one of people's top choices for travel destinations. However, it is a nice place to visit and explore, especially during Autumn when the weather is reasonably cool (at least for me). Also, they now have a Disneyland that is so cool and awesome. Our first destination was the Jing'an temple in West Nanjing Road. It was built in the 220-280 and used to be called as Hudu Chongyuan Temple. It was burned into ruins in the 1972 but was rebuilt in 1984. To enter the complex, there is an entrance fee of ¥50 (around  ₱350) . The place is huge and is pretty much everything inside is open to the public. Next stop was the Bund or Wai Tan, which is a famous waterfront and considered to be a symbol of Shanghai for several years. The architecture in the area is a mix of Gothic, baroque a...

Temple Run in Siem Reap

I had been planning to go to Cambodia for the longest time because of Angkor Wat. However, the kuripot in me won't  spend more than ten grand on a plane ticket (unless paid by my parents). This year, we were able to get relatively cheap tickets via Cebu Pacific's numerous midnight promos (it sometimes pays to be a night-owl). As many of the tourists would most likely go to Angkor Wat first, our tour guide decided to bring us to the Angkor Thom complex. Angkor Thom is the last capital city of Khmer empire and used to house priests, military and officials of the palace. The Angkor Thom has five monumental gates; 4 in each side and 1 called as the "ghost" gate. The South Gate is the  best restored and the nearest to Angkor Wat. Thus, this is the most popular among the 4 monumental gateways. The bridge leading up to the South Gate (and the 3 other gates) is flanked with 54 gods on the left and 54 demons on the right. Our guide told us the story of the statues bu...

Seven Falls, Lake Sebu

Image
Honestly, this is one work trip that I particularly hated. Not that I don't like South Cotabato (I'm actually in love with Mindanao and its provinces), but I had to go through a lot of shit just to make  this trip happen.  Anyway, to probably appease everyone's annoyance for being sent in a training in the middle of a very busy month, we were actually allowed to go to Lake Sebu. Lake Sebu is a one and a half drive from Koronadal (Marbel) and is home to the T'boli tribe. One of South Cotabato's attraction is the Seven Falls which is found in Barangay Siloton in Lake Sebu.  From General Santos, one can take a bus (Yellow Bus Line) to Koronadal (Marbel) then a van to Lake Sebu. Another option would be to ride a bus going to Surallah and then ride a jeepney to Lake Sebu The first Falls is the Hikong Alo which is the widest and the easiest to reach of all the Seven Lakes. Falls 2 or Hikong Bente on the other hand is 70 feet tall and can be reached after desce...
